Cosmetic dentistry refers to dental work which improves the appearance of teeth and gums. It may involve: teeth whitening, crowns, veneers, bridges, implants, full or partial dentures. All with the goal of providing you with the best possible smile.
To ensure you're fully informed about your treatment we'll provide itemised treatment plans and fee estimates prior to the commencement of any course of treatment. If you'd like to make an enquiry about pricing, please feel free to send us a message using the contact form at the end of this page.
By covering a tooth with a strong material, crowns strengthen heavily filled or broken teeth to stop further deterioration. They can also be used to restore discoloured or crooked teeth. Crowns can be made of porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or gold. Crowns are stain resistant, have a glossy surface and are extremely natural looking.
Dental bridges are a fixed alternative to a partial denture and are used to replace missing teeth by attaching a false tooth to the teeth either side of the gap. Dental bridges look and feel just like natural teeth.
Implants are considered the gold standard for replacement of missing teeth as they're fixed in place and don’t require any attachment to adjacent teeth. They usually involve having a titanium implant placed into the gum with a crown placed on top. Implants can also be used as anchors to stabilise dentures and prevent them moving around.
Dentures are a great way to replace missing teeth. There are many different types and the actual design depends on the number of teeth you need and the choice of materials used to make the denture.
Veneers made of porcelain or composite are placed over the front of teeth to improve their appearance.
Veneers can be used to change the colour, size, alignment and shape of teeth. They can be used to match a damaged tooth to your normal teeth or multiple veneers can be used to completely change your smile.
If you'd like immediate results, we can do on-the-spot in-surgery bleaching, which is then followed up with take-home whitening trays.
We also use internal bleaching to lighten discoloured teeth that have had root canal treatment.
The process involves placing a bleaching agent inside the top of your tooth to remove the discolouration.
First, we'll thoroughly check your teeth to see if whitening will be effective and is appropriate for you. We recommend having your teeth professionally cleaned and polished beforehand to ensure best results.
We'll then take impressions of your teeth. This 'mould' is then used to make trays that fit comfortably into your mouth. These custom trays ensure a good fit and enhance the effectiveness of the non-toxic whitening agent that you'll need to apply. The trays are shaped like sports mouthguards but are only a quarter of the thickness for extra comfort.
You'll wear your trays for 30-60 minutes every day for about two weeks in the comfort of your own home. You can talk while wearing them and they're almost unnoticeable.
Tooth whitening will last for some time, and as minor discolouration occurs new tubes of whitening agent can be purchased to brighten your smile multiple times over.
It's very important not to take chances with your teeth and to use safe and effective products.
Some forms of whitening and bleaching often advertised as one-off procedures with lasers, high-intensity light treatments or high concentrations of bleaching material, can cause serious damage to your teeth.
The whitening and bleaching processes we use at David Marriott Dental are safe and are also accredited by the New Zealand Dental Association.
Not all teeth are suitable for bleaching. One of our dentists will advise if yours are not and suggest other options.
